May 2018/Music Class Contents

During this month all SAS classes from PK4 to 8th grade will spend time learning/reviewing/reinforcing new and old music theory, music appreciation, and music history concepts; including treble clef staff and C-Scale note ID. Instrumental responses in music class will include playing at the bells the classic The Entertainer by Scott Joplin. Classes will continue to review/reinforce 4-beat rhythm patterns including a Final Rhythm Chart from 4th to 8th grade levels. Different activities on each of these objectives will be assessed -including classwork, homework, quizzes and tests before the end of the marking period.

PK, Kinder, 1st and 2nd Grade

Introduce/Reinforce/Review new and old music theory concepts. Instrumental responses will include playing by groups with different types of notes on Orff instruments.

Elementary School: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade

Introduce/Reinforce/Review new and old music theory concepts. Instrumental responses will include playing by groups with different types of notes on Orff instruments.

Middle School: 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Introduce/Reinforce/Review new and old music theory concepts. Instrumental responses with different types of notes on Orff instruments. Reinforce/review 4-beat rhythm patterns. Optionally, reinforce/review straight beat on drum set.

Reinforce/review instrumental responses on bells and Orff instruments

All Grade Levels

Implement pre-mid-post assessment activities including a diversity of questioning, exit tickets, quizzes, and testing evaluations on all music theory and performing objectives.
